On 4 December, Taiwan’s Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua and the Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s DG Trade Helena König met for the 30th Taiwan-EU Economic Dialogue.

During the talks, the two sides engaged in frank discussions concerning the development of global and bilateral economic policy, the WTO multilateral trade system, plant and animal quarantines, intellectual property rights protection, medicine and medical materials, technological trade barriers, investments, government purchases, energy policy and related issues.

Both parties affirmed that real progress had been made and looked forward to further deepening cooperation in the future.  The EU is Taiwan’s 5th largest trading partner (after China, ASEAN, the US and Japan) and the biggest source of foreign investment in the country.
