Taiwan’s exports reached an all-time high of US$345.28 billion (€284.51bn) in 2020, after growing by 4.9 % from the 2019 figures, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced 8 January.

The MOF attributed the rising figures to an increasing global demand for electronics and information and communications technology products caused by the spike in remote work and online learning over the past year, as well as the sustained expansion of emerging technologies such as 5G applications.

Looking to the future, the MOF also forecasts that Taiwan’s exports will maintain momentum during the first quarter of 2021 on the back of the country’s prowess in the semiconductor industry, and that expected higher demand for electronic devices in the lead-up to Lunar New Year will also help boost growth.
