The leaders of the Group of Seven rich nations mocked Vladimir Putin's macho image on Sunday (26 June) at a meeting in Germany that was dominated by the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian president.

Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister, asked the G7 leaders to remove their jackets and if they should take off their robes before they sat down in the Bavarian Alps for the first meeting of the three day summit.

Johnson stated, to laughter from his colleagues, "We all need to show that our tougher than Putin!"

Justin Trudeau, Canada's Justin Trudeau, retorted "Bare-chested horseback cycling".

"Oh yes," said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. "Horseback riding is the best."

Putinis known for his sporty image and has been photographed shirtless in several photos published by Russian state media. This includes one photo in which Putin rode a brown horse while wearing army trousers, wrap-around sunglasses, a chain of gold, and gold chains.

Leaders of the G7 discussed ways to isolate Russia in light of its invasion of Ukraine. This has resulted in thousands of deaths and millions fleeing their homes. The United States, Canada, Japan, and Britain announced plans to prohibit imports of Russian gold. France, Italy, and Germany are also included in the G7.
