The governor of Russia’s Belgorod region said on Monday (22 May) that a Ukrainian “sabotage group” had entered Russian territory in the Graivoron district bordering Ukraine and was being repelled by Russian security forces.

Cuireadh tuairiscí neamhfhíoraithe ar ionsaithe i bhfad tar éis meán oíche ar phríomhbhaile an réigiúin ar an teorainn leis an Úcráin ar na meáin shóisialta. Dúirt tuarascálacha ar roinnt bealaí gur díríodh ar cheanncheathrú áitiúil na hAireachta intí agus ar sheirbhís slándála an FSB.

Luaigh an t-asraon Úcráinis Hromadske faisnéis mhíleata na hÚcráine ag rá dhá ghrúpa armtha freasúra na Rúise, Léigiún Shaoirse na Rúise agus an Cór Oibrithe Deonacha na Rúise (RVC), a bhí i mbun an ionsaí.

Hromadske said both were composed of Russian nationals committed to fighting the Kremlin authorities. Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak tweeted that Kyiv was “watching the events in the Belgorod region” but was not involved.

The Liberty of Russia Legion is a Ukraine-based Russian militia led by Russian opposition figure Ilya Ponomarev that says it is working inside Russia for Putin’s overthrow.

It said on Twitter it had “completely liberated” the border town of Kozinka and forward units had reached the district centre of Graivoron, further east.

“Moving on. Russia will be free!” it wrote.

Belgorod regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov imposed a “counter-terrorism regime” allowing authorities greater powers to clamp down on people’s movement and communications.

Aiseolas

I bpost déanach san oíche ar Telegram, dúirt Gladkov go ndearnadh damáiste i dhá bhaile ionsaithe ar leith agus foirgnimh riaracháin i dhá bhaile sa réigiún, Borisovka agus Graivoron.

Telegram channels monitoring Russia’s military activity, including the blog Rybar, with more than a million subscribers, said buildings housing the Interior Ministry and the FSB security service had come under attack in the region’s main town, also known as Belgorod.

Ní dhearna Gladkov aon tagairt don ionsaí líomhnaithe ar Belgorod.

The Telegram channel Baza, which has links to Russia’s security services, had earlier published aerial footage apparently showing a Ukrainian armoured vehicle advancing on the Graivoron border checkpoint.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said President Vladimir Putin had been informed, and that work was under way to drive out the “saboteurs”, the state-run RIA Novosti news agency reported.

I bpostálacha Telegram níos luaithe sa lá, dúirt Gladkov go raibh arm na Rúise, gardaí teorann, garda uachtaránachta agus an FSB san oibríocht. Dúirt sé gur gortaíodh ochtar ar a laghad agus go ndearnadh damáiste do thrí theach agus d’fhoirgneamh riaracháin.

In a briefing streamed on social media, he said many residents had left, either in buses or their own vehicles, and that he had imposed a “counter-terrorist operation” regime.

Faoi chumhachtaí méadaithe, tugadh údarás do na húdaráis gníomhaíochtaí agus gluaiseacht a theorannú agus seirbhísí cumarsáide lena n-áirítear líonraí móibíleacha agus an t-idirlíon a chur ar fionraí nó a shrianadh.

CUR SÍOS físeán Feithicil gafa, Saighdiúirí

D'fhoilsigh Cór Deonach na Rúise scannán físeáin go déanach Dé Luain a léirigh an méid a dúirt sé a bhí ina throdaire ag iniúchadh feithicle armúrtha gafa. Thaispeáin físeán eile cad a dúirt sé a bhí trodaithe ag oibriú feithicle armúrtha ar bhóthar tuaithe.

Thaispeáin físeáin eile a postáladh ar bhealaí meán sóisialta na Rúise agus na hÚcráine pictiúir agus físeáin de na daoine a ndearnadh cur síos orthu mar sheirbhísigh Rúiseacha a gabhadh agus a ndoiciméid aitheantais.

Baza said there were indications of fighting in three settlements along the main road leading into Russia. The “Open Belgorod” Telegram channel said power and water had been cut off to several villages.

D'eisigh Léigiún Saoirse na Rúise físeán ag taispeáint cúigear trodaithe armtha.

“We are Russians, like you. We are people like you. We want our children to grow up in peace,” one said, facing the camera. “It is time to put an end to the dictatorship of the Kremlin.”

Hromadske quoted Ukrainian military intelligence spokesperson Andriy Yusov as saying the operation would create a “security zone” to protect Ukrainians from attacks by Russia.

Dúirt an Kremlin go raibh sé mar aidhm ag an ionradh aird a tharraingt ó bhaile Bakhmut in oirthear na hÚcráine, a deir fórsaí na Rúise a bheith gafa ina iomláine tar éis níos mó ná naoi mí de throid intriallach.

“We understand perfectly well the goal of such a diversion – to divert attention from the Bakhmut direction and minimise the political effect of Bakhmut’s loss for the Ukrainian side,” Peskov was quoted as saying.

Go luath i mí an Mhárta, thuairiscigh an FSB ionradh from Ukraine into Russia’s Bryansk region.

In videos circulating online at the time, armed men saying they belonged to the RVC said they had crossed the border to fight what they called “the bloody Putinite and Kremlin regime”.

Bhunaigh Denis Kapustin, náisiúnach Rúiseach atá bunaithe san Úcráin, an RVC i mí Lúnasa seo caite, agus d’fhógair sé an 17 Bealtaine go raibh sé ag dul i gcomhar le Léigiún Shaoirse na Rúise, ar a dtugann an Béarla Léigiún Shaoirse na Rúise air féin.

Deir an RVC go bhfuil ar a laghad trí ionradh déanta aige ar réigiún Bryansk ó mhí an Mhárta.
