The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) thanked the Formosa Club, 26 August, for their litir chomhpháirteach urging the heads of the European Commission, Council, Parliament, and External Action Service to demonstrate solidarity with Lithuania and support its decision to develop ties with Taiwan.

The letter, which was signed by the club’s Co-Chairs and lawmakers from the European Parliament, and 27 national parliaments in Europe and Canada, states the club’s solidarity with Lithuania and further urges the EU and NATO to take a more active approach in supporting the state’s decision to expand relations with Taiwan.

Responding to the letter, MOFA described Taiwan and Lithuania as on the front lines of the defence of democracy in Asia and Europe, respectively. The ministry further added that every effort will be made to deepen friendship and expand exchanges between the two countries.

The Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium also expressed its appreciation to the club, stating that democracies must stand together and protect their common values in the face of the challenges posed by authoritarian regimes.
