MIC_2887Remember the TV images of boatloads of usually forlorn-looking Vietnamese who flocked to Europe back in the 1980s?

Sadly, it is all too reminiscent with current scenes of forlorn-looking immgrants fleeing Africa hitting the news on  an almost daily basis.

Well, the good news (and there is some) is that some of those Vietnamese folk have done rather well for themselves and Katia Nguyen, owner of this delightful Vietnamese restaurant, is an excellent case study.

She came to Brussels to study, decided to stay and a few years later ventured into the restaurant trade. That was almost three decades ago and the efforts of Katie and her hard-working team have paid off with L’Orchidee Blanche being voted by Gault and Millau the best Asian restaurant in Brussels in 2015.

Given the huge number of Asian restaurants in the city that is quite some accolade but it is very well deserved.

The facade may be relatively modest but do not be fooled - the food here, like the service, is supreme.

Given a total refurb in 2004, this stylish yet cosy restaurant serves some of the best Asiatique food you will find anywhere, including mouth watering house specialities such as "Vermicelles" (beef and lemon rice), scampis au riz souffle and grilled chicken with curry and milk coconut. As well as a very extensive a la carte there are a couple of very reasonably-priced 3 and 4 course fixed menus. In fact, given the high quality and presentation of the food, the prices are remarkably low.

With summer approaching, a pretty, 30-seat outside garden has just opened ... another reason to recommend this lovely eatery.
