Recent analysis by online home rentals company Spotahome has revealed that Helsinki ranks as the best city for equality in Europe. The report examined 36 countries and 33 cities, where the real estate startup analysed key categories such as male vs female labour force participation, political issues, LGBTI friendliness, and overall quality of life, to rank each city on a scale of ten for overall equality.

In the overall rankings, Helsinki scores highest (10.00) for male vs female labour force participation, women in politics, and political rights & civil liberties. The city also scores well for overall quality of life (8.13), ranking 8th best European city in the index.

As a result of such high scores, Helsinki has been crowned the most equal city in Europe. Here’s how Helsinki compares with other Nordic capitals:

The ranking scores Helsinki in the first position, but Finland itself as a country ranks a little lower. In the Country Index, Finland is the 5th most equal country behind Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Luxembourg. This is due to its lower scores in gender pay gap (4.49) and immigrant acceptance (7.53).
